Haitian culture is a mix of West African, French, and Caribbean cultures. The official languages are French and Haitian Creole. More and more people, however, are learning to speak Spanish in order to communicate (kuh-MYOO-nih-kayt) with people from the Dominican Republic. Also, people in many other countries in the area, including Cuba, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico, speak Spanish.
